Meditation on VENI EMMANUEL was commissioned by Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church in Savannah, Georgia in memory of Frank and Lois Wooten.
The piece unfolds as a dynamic narrative, based on the first verse of O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. It traces the contrasting moods of Advent—longing, hope, quiet expectation, and vibrant joy—steered by the text and tune VENI EMMANUEL.
The work is moderately difficult and works perfectly as either a prelude/voluntary or as a concert work, with much room for personal interpretation.
The piece runs approximately 5 minutes.
